HTC One Remix seems to be Verizon's One mini 2, launch date unknown

The HTC One Remix that we told you about yesterday will reportedly be nothing more than a Verizon version of the HTC One mini 2 - which was officially announced earlier today. @evleaks seemingly confirms that the Remix will be Verizon’s One mini 2, although he can’t say when the largest US mobile carrier intends to release it.

HTC said that we should expect to see the One mini 2 hitting shelves in Europe and Asia starting June, but it didn’t provide details about the handset’s launch in North America.

Featuring the same design of the larger HTC One M8, the One mini 2 comes with a 4.5-inch 720p display, a single 13MP rear camera on the back, 5MP front-facing camera, quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of expandable storage space. The smartphone runs Android 4.4 KitKat with HTC’s new Sense 6.0 UI.

Verizon is currently offering the HTC One M8 for as low as $99.99 on contract, so the One mini 2 / Remix may cost well under $100 on contract. Until we hear more about this, you can check out our HTC One mini 2 hands-on here, and official press render of the smartphone in the slideshow below.

First real-life image of HTC One mini 2 surfaces, shows playful color accents

HTC is obviously finding it hard to keep the ‘mini’ version of its HTC One (M8) a secret. We were just sent the first real-life picture of the phone that’s expected to be called the HTC One mini 2. Our source sent us an image of a careless tester using the One mini 2 in public transportation, and what we can see in it is a combination of HTC’s industrial all-aluminum design garnished with playful color accents (yellow, in our case) for the strips of plastic hiding the antennas.

It’s a catchy design, and we like the idea of the added color, however, we are not completely certain whether this added color is not just for this particular testing prototype, so don’t take this colorful element for granted. Otherwise, the all-aluminum body seems to match the looks and soft finish of the HTC One (M8). Our tipster also confirmed that the new One mini 2 will use on-screen buttons, just like the M8.

The One mini 2 is expected to run on the latest Android 4.4 KitKat with the newest HTC Sense 6.0. Its specs are said to include a 4.5-inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 system chip and a 13-megapixel camera with single LED flash.

Obviously, this will put HTC’s second ‘mini’ in the same league as the popular Motorola Moto G (a device that also features a 4.5” display and the Snapdragon 400 chip), but we’re curious whether or not HTC will be able to match the low price of the Moto G.

The HTC One mini 2 release date could be as soon as later this month, so it might not be long until we see it officially.

HTC One mini 2 press render leaks, confirms earlier single camera set-up

Earlier this week, a leaked photograph of the HTC One mini 2 revealed that the Duo camera set-up on the HTC One (M8), will not be coming to the mini version of the flagship phone. This was confirmed on Friday by a leaked press render passed along to us by one of our loyal readers. The second lens is used to allow the HTC One (M8) to change the focus on a picture that has already been processed. You can change the focus from the foreground to the background, or add artistic looking blur images to the background of a photograph.

Unfortunately, it would seem that the features available with the Duo camera will not be available with the HTC One mini 2. In fact, not only has HTC decided not to allow this post-production editing for the bite-sized version of the phone, the handset will also not be equipped with a rear-facing UltraPixel camera. Instead, the Taiwan based company is going to offer a 13MP shooter on the back of the HTC One mini 2.

The previous leaked picture alleged to be that of the HTC One mini 2, showed the phone inside a case. Today's leak looks to be a press render. The rumored specs include a 4.5 inch glass with resolution of 720 x 1280, a quad-core 1.4GHz Snapdragon 400, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage. Android 4.4 and Sense 6 should be pre-installed out of the box.

While evleaks has revealed that the phone will be available from Verizon, we wouldn't be surprised to see other major U.S. carriers and international operators add the HTC One mini 2 to their line-ups.

Thanks, Mohamed

Leaked image gives us our first credible look at the HTC One mini 2

HTC One mini 2

Over the past few days there have been multiple “leaks” which claimed to show off the HTC One mini two. While the images looked nice, we chose not to share them with you since none of them came from trusted sources. That changed this morning when @evleaks posted a leaked press sender of the HTC One mini 2 which shows the phone in glacial silver, gunmetal gray and rose gold. The new leak was not accompanied with any new details, but we know from previous rumors that the mini One M8 will sport a quad-core 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 with a 4.5-inch 720p display, 1GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, 13 megapixel main camera, 5 megapixel front-facing camera, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, Android 4.4.2 (KitKat), Sense 6.0 and on-screen buttons.

The HTC One mini 2 isn’t going to compete directly with the HTC One (M8) on specs, but the leaked image shows that HTC is committed to keeping the handsets signature design. Let’s just hope that the HTC One mini 2′s price is more in line with that of the HTC Desire 816 since the specs of the two devices are nearly identical.
